Colombo, Feb 10 (Daily Mirror) - Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said today that he hopes that National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) makes positive statements regarding his visit to India and he understands the need for investors in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the media, he said that whoever had invited AKD to India, had done a good thing.

"AKD might have gained a vast amount of experience over the need for investors in our country from any country in the world, including India. After experiencing the development of India's energy sectors, I don't think that AKD would get a chance to chase away the investors who are coming to the country.

"AKD dressed according to the European dress code, ignoring his traditional dress. I don't think his trade unions understand how he behaves," he said.

It is very common to see political parties visit India every month, but this is the first time that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is in India, he said.

"It is good to hear of AKD's visit to India. But it is hard to figure out whether AKD represents the NPP or the JVP on his visit to India, he added.

"However, it is very good to see AKD's visit to India. I'm waiting to hear a positive response about his tour and about the Indian investors coming to Sri Lanka," Minister Wijesekera added.

Finally we have a politician who cares for the country.

    Bandu Sunday, 11 February 2024 07:40 AM

Ha. Agreed FINALLY. But has he changed just to get votes. Firstly he must say Mea Culpa before asserting this new policy of co-operation internationally.

Of course. But you will have to get booted out and the electricity rates will have to be reduced. You will have to count your days.

    Dee Saturday, 10 February 2024 11:17 PM

Keep dreaming if you think electricity can be reduced with the sabotage acts of the unionized govt institutions!

Rip Winkle Saturday, 10 February 2024 08:59 PM

Kanchana seems to be so worried about AKD's trip to India but doesn't demand same things from RW's worldwide trips as President

    Voter Saturday, 10 February 2024 09:10 PM

What is this fool is saying?,AKD is miles ahead of these men in regarding the development of our country. In every speech AKD makes he values the foreign investment in our country and its need to go ahead with the development of our economy.

This idiot who couldn't run a ice cream van is concerned about a dress. This is the low calibre politicians we have in our country. Time for change friends.

Minister for candle lights Sunday, 11 February 2024 07:20 AM

If you are so smart, why is the energy sector in the country dysfunctional? Simple....we have an moron a minister.

Thimal Samarajeewa Sunday, 11 February 2024 12:31 PM

AKD and his team are educated enough to understand the world affairs and how countries are interconnected in the global chain of production and distribution. Good he will walk the talk. Since they are heavily connected with trade union affairs he will face a uphill task of implementing investment friendly policies.

    Cherath Monday, 12 February 2024 03:15 PM

IF Kanchana's father not abandoned his JVP chums and stayed sincere to them, he would by now be on the verge of capturing power. Wonder what he has to say now on the 'convincing' speeches he made praising the JVP when he was the President of the Students Union at Vidyodaya University (present day Jayawardenepura)! Instead, he admitted disgustingly that 'Rajapaksa is Best'.
