Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - A high-level meeting was held today (23 October) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, jointly chaired by Deputy Minister of Ports and Aviation, Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku and Defence Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha.
The discussions focused on enhancing overall security at Sri Lanka’s main international aviation hub, curbing illegal activities, and improving inter-agency coordination and response mechanisms. The Defence Secretary stressed the airport’s crucial role in national security, economic growth, and international connectivity, highlighting the importance of safeguarding passengers, staff, and airline crews.
Officials agreed to establish a comprehensive mechanism to streamline collaboration between all relevant institutions for a more efficient and unified approach to airport security. Following the meeting, top officials, including the Deputy Minister and Defence Secretary, inspected existing security arrangements at the airport.
The meeting included senior officials from the Ministry of Ports and Aviation, Sri Lanka Customs, SIS, Civil Aviation Authority, Immigration and Emigration, Military and Air Intelligence, police, tri-forces, and other state agencies.
