Heavy rains to continue even today after 2 pm: Met. dept.

While issuing a general forecast for the country, the National Meteorological Centre said today that the atmospheric conditions are favorable for evening thundershowers in most parts of the island.

Accordingly, thundershowers would occur over most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m., with heavy rains above 100 mm likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Southern Provinces.

Showers may occur in the Western and Southern Provinces during the morning too.

Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary, localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, thundershowers would occur in the coastal areas around the island. The winds would be south-westerly over the sea area and the wind speed would be 35 kmph. The sea areas around the island would be mild to moderate.

Temporarily strong, gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
