Heavy rains on the cards

Colombo, Sept. 18 (Daily Mirror) - Heavy rains are expected in several parts of the country today, with showers or thundershowers forecast at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

According to the Department of Meteorology, fairly heavy showers of around 75 mm are likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northern provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely in the sea areas off the coast stretching from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Colombo and Galle, while other sea areas may experience similar conditions during the evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph, with gusts of up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
