Heavy rains cause traffic congestion in Colombo

Colombo, Oct. 17 (Daily Mirror) - Severe traffic congestion has been reported across several areas in Colombo following heavy rains this evening.

Multiple roads in the city have been inundated due to the continuous downpour.

As such, motorists have been advised to exercise caution and use alternative routes where possible.

Tell the Colombo Municipality to clean the drains where lot of sand and soils filled and also the drain system in Colombo have NO slopes. Therefore the water hardly flows. The problem is not only the soil or the sand filled. The main problem is the slopes of those drains.

Climate is changing; therefore the current design parameters are not valid anymore. The other reason is the uncontrolled development which increases impermeable ground surfaces thereby increasing the run-off. In view of the above, the current drainage system is inadequate. Climate Change: Government and people are the cause. Uncontrolled Development: Government and people are the cause. Therefore we, people, will have to put up such inconvenience unless our thinking changes on the reasons mentioned above.
