Heat Index expected to reach caution level in several areas

Colombo, July 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for the Eastern Province and the districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Monaragala for today (18).

According to the advisory, the heat index — the temperature felt by the human body — is expected to rise to the ‘Caution’ level in some areas during the daytime.

The department advised the public to remain well-hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight where possible, and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.

Authorities also urged residents to take necessary precautions to minimise heat-related health risks, particularly among children, the elderly and those engaged in outdoor work.
