Colombo, March 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Health has launched an investigation following the tragic death of a 50-year-old patient at Ragama Teaching Hospital shortly after receiving a vaccine.

The patient, who had been admitted to the hospital for an ear-related medical condition, passed away after reportedly being administered the 'co-amoxiclav' vaccine, an antibiotic typically used to combat bacterial infections.

Dr. Sampath Ranaweera, the hospital's director, confirmed that a thorough internal investigation is also underway at the hospital level to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

While the cause of death remains uncertain, officials have not ruled out the possibility of an allergic reaction to the vaccine.

The incident has sparked concerns and prompted authorities to delve deeper into the events leading up to the patient's demise.

Oh former health minister and his secretary is also having ear bacterial infection. Hope these injections imported by them help cure them.

Why should a vaccine be given, can't you give ear drops. Most ear infections are due to fungal infections. Did they do a ear swab and determine whether it is due to bacteria, virus or fungus before deciding on the treatment Who is this doctor and from which medical college did he or she get the degree. Please investigate thoroughly the qualifications and training of this doctor.

Who is this doctor who gives a vaccine for a ear infection (already infected). Can you give a already infected person a vaccine. I thought you give vaccines before you are infected. Can a good doctor enlighten us the best practice

Terrible things happens in our government hospitals so many preventable deaths something seriously need to be done our reputation in government hospitals is getting bad to worse due to lack in professionalism and proper training

It’s very annoying to read co- amoxiclav classed as a vaccine. It’s an antibiotic not a vaccine. Very rarely patients are allergic to penicillin and co-amoxiclav also known as augmentin can be allergic to such patients. People are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. This patient is said to have an ear infection. Thus he could have had complications of ear infection such as meningitis, brain abscess, septicaemia, shock of severe infections. Do a postmortem to find the cause of death and shut up.

Retired Doctor, Simple Question!!?? Isn't there a way to find out before administration of the treatment or Vaccine, whether the patient has existing allergic reaction to the drug!!??

Why do they keep calling co-amoxiclav a vaccine? Its not a vaccine its an antibiotic

What is the guarantee you have that you will come out of a hospital alive when you go for treatment..Patient gas gone for ear treatment and not a life threatening problem. The Sri Lankan Health dept is a stinking hole. Give it to Medamulana family to eliminate the Sri Lankan population.

Is it medical Negligence on the part of Health Staff, for "NOT TESTING PRIOR TO ADMINISTARTION, FOR ALLERGIC REACTION (AR) TO THE DRUG"!!!??? Or COMPLETE IGNORANCE TO READ and understand INSTRUCTIONS, may have included testing for AR!!!??? That’s MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE!!??? CMS is also culpable, awarding MBBS – Candidates UNABLE to comprehend instructions!!!??? Perhaps they may find fault and file additional charges for Importing PHARMA PRODUCTS with Non-Sinhalese Instructions, in addition to English – additional Surcharge!!!???
