Health Ministry makes no changes to existing guidelines despite Omicron spread

The existing health guidelines which were issued effective from January 1 to 31 has been further extended until the end of February, the Health Ministry said.

Accordingly, the existing guidelines will be in effect until February 28.

As per the guidelines, prior approval needs to be obtained from the Director General of Health Services before organising public gatherings.

However, the existing guidelines have allowed many events including weddings to be held with over 50% of capacity despite the vast Omicron spread in the country.

Commenting on the situation, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath urged people to stringently follow the health practices and be mindful to take the booster dose in due time. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

The government is so far acting sensibly by not tightening up covid restrictions. A very large percentage of people have been adequately vaccinated and the omicron variant is mild in comparison with the other variants.

Ha ha health guidelines were further relaxed only a few days ago, even allowing asymptomatic people to go to work if they are fully vaccinated!!! Children are falling sick lies flies, spreading the virus like wildfire, bringing it from school to home to the elderly and the sick!!! Majority of the people won't get tested for so many various understandable reason as!!!! What b.s. are these so-called heath authorities talking about??? Is this a new way to reduce the population??? Totally sick to the last bone with you idiots!!!!

Health ministry official and their doctors do not know anything about a virus, otherwise they will not be coming up to these stupid guidelines. Omicron is spreading faster than wild fire in Sri Lanka

most countries are even removing health guidelines because Omicron is really mild and the pandemic is finishing.
