Health Ministry concerned over misleading post on LGBTQ

Colombo, October 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Health Ministry has expressed concern over a misleading social media post that promoted the launch of an “LGBTQIA+ Sexual Wellbeing Clinic” at the National Hospital in Kandy, it is learnt.

A senior ministry official told Daily Mirror that the post created unnecessary confusion and misrepresentation about the clinic’s purpose.

The official further confirmed that the particular doctor responsible for circulating the post had been reprimanded.

According to the health officials, the service is not limited to any particular group but is open to all individuals seeking sexual health guidance.

“The clinic was established with the aim of promoting healthy sexual lifestyles and providing accessible, comprehensive care for anyone facing sexual health issues. It is not designed to exclude or favour any group,” the official added.

The post, which invited the public to attend the opening, has been criticized for giving the wrong impression that the facility is exclusively for the LGBTQ community.

However, the clinic was established with the vision of creating a 'one-stop shop' for sexual health and wellbeing, accessible to everyone regardless of background and providing comprehensive care and guidance for anyone experiencing sexual health-related issues.
