Head-on collision between two buses in Habarana injures 16

Colombo, January 29 (Daily Mirror) - A head-on collision between a private bus and a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus on the Habarana-Minneriya road left 16 people injured this morning (29).

The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. near the 7th mile post. Among the injured, 12 passengers were from the SLTB bus, while four were from the private bus.

All have been admitted to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital and the Habarana Regional Hospital for treatment.

Both bus drivers are reported to be among the injured.

Enforce road traffic laws. I have recently returned to the UK from Sri Lanka and I can honestly say that SL drivers are a dangerous joke. Very few of you would pass a western driving test and those who did would lose their licence in short order due to lack of disciplined driving and inability to read the traffic. Your bus drivers are betel chewing lunatics who are a menace to other road users and should all be retested by trained instructors. None of them should have a psv licence.

This is crazy it's getting out of control a complete over haul of a bus system must be done all drivers must be checked if they can drive properly and check their criminal records and road safety records very strict laws need be set otherwise alot people going die and get injured.

In the Middle East, holders of driving licenses issued by most Western countries can obtain a local license within a few hours. However, applicants from Sri Lanka, as well as certain Arab, African, and South Asian countries, are required to go through exams and trials. This difference is largely due to the way licensing procedures are conducted in Sri Lanka and many of these other countries, coupled with the lack of discipline among drivers. It is high time the authorities address the standards for issuing licenses and take decisive action against errant drivers. These steps would not only make our roads safer but also help gain the respect of other nations by demonstrating that we have disciplined and responsible drivers.

These bus drivers have been terrifying other road users for years. However, the only response the police have is checking private motorists for licence and insurance. Alao the primary source of pollution is the SLTB buses.

NPP government only talks about what they are going to , but nothing of what they have done. They boasted recently saying that they disciplined all drivers but where? The accideare even more now.

If you are jobless why don't you take the task of disciplining the drivers. Unless the mindset of the drivers change, the accidents will take place. You have nothing else but your 2 cents on NPP.
