Hatch Cover crushes truck at Colombo Port; driver injured

A container truck driver was injured when a hatch cover fell on the truck at the Colombo port this morning, an official at the Port told Daily Mirror a while ago.

He said the accident occurred while carrying out operations in the Jayabahalu Terminal early this morning at 1.20 a.m.

The hatch cover of the ship was accidentally released from the Overhead Gantry Crane when it was lifting the hatch cover of a ship, the official said.

He said the container truck was badly damaged, and the driver was admitted to the hospital with injuries.

“However, soon after the accident, the area was cleared and operations resumed,” the official said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
