Mar. 19 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been suspended for Bangladesh's two-Test series against Bangladesh, shortly after announcing his decision to return to Test cricket following his retirement from the format last year.

During the third ODI in the recently-concluded series against Bangladesh, Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.

The incident occurred in the 37th over of the game when Hasaranga snatched his cap from one of the umpires and ridiculed the umpiring during the match.

Bangladesh clinched the series 2-1 after winning the contest by four wickets.

Hasaranga received a 50 percent fine and accumulated three demerit points for his offense. This brought his total demerit points to eight within a 24-month period.

The all-rounder was already on five demerit points after receiving three demerit points in the third T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla last month. Consequently, he was suspended for two T20Is against Bangladesh.

The four suspension points equate to a ban from two Tests or four ODIs or T20Is, whichever comes first. Hasaranga will, therefore, miss the two ICC World Test Championship Tests against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka won the T20 series against Bangladesh, which was their last T20 series before heading to the T20I World Cup.

Hasaranga, who is the captain of the Sri Lanka T20 side, could have missed the first matches in the T20 World Cup if he had not returned to Test cricket.

Sheehan and bugs bunny 100% we agreed. Ella boy and third class family members habit very difficulty to change. Behavior must learn from SANGA,ARJUNA,ARAVINDA ,MAHELA AND MALINGA.

This guy should learn how to behave decently more than anything. Doesn't matter how many wickets you take, if you don't have good character. You represent SL national team for god's sake..

Considering current situation in Sri Lanka I don’t blame Hasaranga’s decision to quit test cricket. For past ten years several top cricketers decided not to play Test Cricket including ranking bowler Lasith Malinga which I did not agree. All cricketers must learn to play the game according to its style doesn’t matter T20, limited Over test cricket. Specially Australia, England, or South Africa don’t change players according to time line. Cricketers must play the game not considering time frame but the good of cricket ethics and its technicality. I really appreciate Hasaranga’s decision to play test cricket to improve the quality of cricket.

News is not about him playing test cricket. News is he got suspended for what he did.

This is fantastic news and sets the standard for budding young cricketers to follow, the 2 limited overs captains must be placed on the honors list for their behavior. It is a clear direction where our cricket is heading. The sports minister also should be congratulated for concurring the appointments of these 2 below par ambassadors.

We do not want bad behaviour. It tarnishes the little image the country has.......

Arrogance of this guy is beyond comprehension. I believe he is overrated. If the batsman forgets about his reputation, they can hit him out of the park easily. He will be broken down under pressure. This shows his poor upbringing and immaturity. He was the first person to financially help his friend who sexually assaulted a woman in Australia. He did this because he had no morals. He also behaved same manner during tours but he was saved as complaints were not investigated. This guy should be relieved from captaincy and put on notice on disciplinary grounds. There are so many young budding cricketers are waiting for a chance. Bring them in. Winning is not everything. Play the game fair and enjoy success and learn from failures.

    THIS GUY IS A HYPE

Very good decision by ICC. New players should never follow this lad. Looking at this player, what I see is a under-developed human. The way he trims his hair, the tattoos, the ear rings, they have come out of nowhere, not related to culture or a reason. His attitude is most embarrassing. Personally I think he should be rehabilitated before releasing to play for a country.

In the old days cricket was known as gentleman's sport. But once the ODI saga followed by T-20 cicket with which came the poisonous snake named money, the credibility of the game has sunk to low depth.

    REEZ Wednesday, 20 March 2024 10:43 AM

@Vipul P de Silva His announcement of re-entry to Test is a technical move to playing him for the 1st two T20 in the World Cup. He will never return to Test.

    Joe Wednesday, 20 March 2024 11:03 AM

Hasaranga and his fellow Richmond gang represent the rapid deterioration of cricket in Sri Lanka. They're low in skill and human qualities but high in ego and vulgarity. Probably a good representation of the current society itself.

Sivapalan Varatharajan Wednesday, 20 March 2024 11:32 AM

Attention: Hasaranga/SLC. The cunning and crookish way of Sri Lankan thinking is well exposed. One scratched the other's back. He was hopping on one leg ridiculing the medical advice
