Colombo, June 23 (Daily Mirror) - Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, filling the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Mahinda Siriwardana.

Dr. Suriyapperuma, who last week tendered his resignation as a Member of Parliament, formally assumed duties in his new role following the official appointment.

Congratulations Dr Suriyapperuma. Hope you will now stop been a politician and be a professional who will only tell the truth to the people. We would like to see you first as a learned professional and now also as a Government Servant who holds a very important role. We dont want to see you also been blamed the same way Dr. P B Jayasuriya who held that post but stooped low into becoming a political lacky and ruined his name. We need you to act for the country and not for the Malimawa. As tax payers we really feel sad when we see those who are holding top posts not telling the truth about the economy of the country and the genuine plans to revive it.

See the trend and the danger. Secretary to the President. Post of secretary to National security , ,Defence and now finance are all held by party members outside the civil service. This means political party members hold the reins of the most influential and critical ministries. They all are "outsiders' from the public administration service and becomes super secretaries not answerable to PSC. It is a pretty scary set up. Put together the quartet could totally destroy the opposition or dissent.
