Harsha Ilukpitiya jailed for two years



Colombo, Sept. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Former Controller General of Immigration and Emigration Harsha Ilukpitiya was today sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Supreme Court over the contempt of court charges filed against him over the controversial visa deal.

The Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprised Justices Yasantha Kodagoda, Janak de Silva and Arjuna Obeyesekere.

On September 25, 2024, the Supreme Court ordered Harsha Ilukpitiya to be remanded until the conclusion of the contempt of court proceedings for failing to implement the Supreme Court's order regarding the controversial visa deal. Pic by Kithsiri De Mel
