Harini to meet Chinese President Xi today, PM Li tomorrow



Colombo, Oct. 13 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya who is on a visit to China will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping today and with her counterpart Li Qiang tomorrow.

She is in China to attend the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women 2025 in China.

Earlier this year, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake paid an official visit to Beijing. He signed a number of MoUs including the one for US $ 3.7 billion investment by Sinopec for a refinery in Hambantota.

Recently, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China is willing to work with Sri Lanka to promote a strategic cooperative partnership based on sincere mutual assistance and a lasting friendship. He met his Sri Lankan counterpart Vijitha Herath earlier in Malaysia.

China has stressed the need to deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and practical cooperation in various fields. It has called for Sri Lanka to work together to effectively implement the two flagship projects of the Colombo Port City and the Hambantota Port, accelerate negotiations for China-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement and create new growths for cooperation in such areas as green energy, digital economy, modern agriculture, and marine economy, according to Wang as quoted by the Chinese media.
