Colombo, Jan. 11 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC’s) suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be lifted before February 15, Sports Minister Harin Fernando said.
The Minister expressed his confidence that the ICC suspension will be lifted following a fruitful discussion with the ICC CEO Geoff Allardice, who also met President Ranil Wickremesinghe during his visit to Sri Lanka.
The Minister made these observations during a media briefing held at the Tourism Ministry in Colombo.
Minister Fernando said that the ICC delegation was quite satisfied with the recent negotiations in Colombo and had granted the greenlight to lift Sri Lanka’s suspension before their departure.
Minister Fernando said that the ICC delegation was aware of Sri Lanka’s Sports Constitution and had requested an amendment to the regulations to suit the ICC code of ethics.
Minister Fernando said that President Wickremesinghe had also granted his consent to amend the current Sports Constitution.
The Minister noted that under the new amendment, the powers vested on his portfolio will also be changed.
Minister Fernando said that SLC’s suspension by the ICC was a huge blow to the tourism industry as the ICC Annual General Meeting was scheduled to be held in Colombo.
Minister Fernando further said that SLC’s administrative and coaching structure needs to be revamped to meet the current high demand while focusing more on player welfare. (Pix: Samantha Perera)

Shammi notified ICC about political intervention and encouraged to suspend SL. Not Roshan as he did his for the SL cricket. It is to end the episode, shortly.

Dear Minister; You MUST ask ICC to continue with the ban on corrupt SLC.

Big deal ! So AG's probes on SLC private company deals are just another show ? No winners

It seems that ICC is confused about the definition of Political Interference.

Shammi the dummy was instrumental in getting the ban imposed. Sack him first. Anyway you and Ranil have conveniently postponed all reforms to 2030, by which time the crooks in SLC along with their betting clan would have completely looted the coffers of Cricket board.

This same guy said earlier, 'we are hopeful we will get the second tranche of the IMF loan'. Now he says, 'we are hopeful the ICC suspension will be lifted'. Illustrates predicaments Sri Lanka is engulfed in.

Does ICC code of ethics allow flagrant spending of funds by a Cricket Board for jaunts of Committee, taking concubines for foreign trips and sponsoring visas for all and sundry. But a praiseworthy request by former Minister to give some funds to the benefit of other sports in SL was not according to ICC rules and they say funds are for cricket only. So does all the racketing and frauds by the Cricket Board for upliftment of cricket or filling their pockets. International Cricket Crooks, all of them

Try not to justify the actions of Mr Right Shammi. Everyone knows that Mr Roshan is the real Mr Right.

If ICC removes the suspension with even one single old officer in place then the evaluation of ICC should be questioned as they are all involved in corruption and match fixing.
