Harassed by parents; boy flees home



A 15-year-old boy who sneaked out from his house to escape harassments of his parents, were taken charge of by the Hatton police when he was liotroing at the Hatton railway station in the early hours of last morning.

Police said he had travelled by Badulla-bound night mail train and got down in Hatton and that the police took him under their care upon alert from the Police Emergency Service.

He told police that his parents beaten him severely and harassed quite often and that he left home to escape their torture.

He said he had a brother and a sister elder to him and they were living in Anuradhapura.

He told police that he had been living with his grandmother in Panadura and attended school and subsequently he was removed from the school by his parents when he was studying in grade ten. 

He said he was severely beaten by his father with a belt causing injuries to his back. The boy said he would not go back to live with his parents.

Investigations revealed that he boarded a Colombo-bound train at Anuradhapura station and travelled to Colombo to go to his grandmother’s house in Panadura but inadvertently boaded the wrong train. (Ranjith Rajapaska)
