Hambantota Mayor arrested over assault in Bambalapitiya
The Bambalapitiya Police has arrested Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando in connection with an alleged assault, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.
The Bambalapitiya Police launched an investigation against the Mayor after a private sector security officer had lodged a complaint that Eraj Fernando had stormed into a property at Kothalawala avenue in Bambalapitiya last week without giving any reason and had verbally abused and assaulted him and the other security officer who was with him.
A security guard who was allegedly assaulted by the mayor was later admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
The Police recorded several statements in connection with the incident.(DSB)
