Halt importing rubber as raw material, report to the President: Siyambalapitiya
The facts revealed by the committee appointed to investigate the excessive import of rubber as raw material will be submitted to President Ranil Wickremesinghe for appropriate action, State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
The state minister mentioned that the committee which met at the ministry took this decision after a lengthy discussion.
The committee was appointed on October 9, 2022, under the chairmanship of Plantation Industries Ministry Secretary B.L.A.J. Dharmakirthi.
The excessive importation of rubber was trimmed as a result of the committee's decisions.
In December 2022, compared to the corresponding month the previous year, the import of rubber fell by 93%, and the export of rubber-related products increased by 39%. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawikrama)
