Haliela woman’s kidnappers arrested

Colombo, January 26 (Daily Mirror) - A group of men, including an apparel factory worker, was arrested for abducting a 21-year-old woman attending a nurses' training course at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) branch at Haliela. 

The young woman was rescued by the Haliela police on Thursday.

The abduction occurred when the woman's mother arrived to pick her on a motorcycle. 

As they were about to leave, the suspects arrived in a trishaw and abducted the woman in front of the SLFEB office. The woman’s mother immediately alerted the Haliela police, who pursued the suspects and intercepted the trishaw at Bogahamaditta, arresting the three men and rescuing the victim.

The arrested suspects include a 24-year-old apparel factory worker, a 35-year-old trishaw driver and a 25-year-old farmer from the Mahiyangana area. Police also seized the trishaw used in the abduction during.

Following the rescue, the young woman was taken to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for a medical examination. 

Investigations revealed that the woman had recently ended a relationship with the main suspect, the apparel factory worker, who allegedly planned the abduction with the assistance of the other two men.
