Colombo, Oct. 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to pay half their salaries to judges who have been suspended, while withholding several allowances.
JSC Secretary Prasanna Alwis has issued a circular to all High Court judges detailing the decision.
The move follows the recent suspension of judges facing various allegations. The JSC determined that suspended judges will receive 50% of their salaries.
The issue of allowances payable alongside the reduced salaries was discussed at a meeting of the Ministry of Justice and National Integration’s Audit and Management Committee.
The committee decided that only professional, personal, living expenses and language allowances will be included in the half-salary payments. Other allowances, including telephone, vehicle, driver, books, house rent, appeal and fuel allowances will not be paid.
In line with this decision, the JSC has issued a circular specifying the allowances applicable to suspended judges receiving half of their salaries.
