Colombo, Dec. 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Hakgala National Botanical Garden, which was closed due to the Ditwah cyclone, has been reopened for tourists from today, the Ministry of Environment said.
This reopening was carried out in compliance with the relevant recommendations and instructions provided by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) and the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the Ministry said.
Due to the emergence of hazardous ground conditions, certain areas—specifically the pond area near the entrance gate and the access roads leading toward the forest park where such signs were observed—have been temporarily cordoned off.
The Ministry said warning signs have been installed to prevent visitors from entering these zones. To ensure the convenience and safety of both local and foreign tourists, the staff of the Botanical Garden has organised a special assistance programme.
The Hakgala Botanical Garden was previously closed due to the disaster situation caused by the "Ditwa" cyclonic storm that affected the country and it has now been successfully reopened for local and foreign tourists within a very short period.
