The prestigious “Presidential Environment Awards 2025” will be held today (23), at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The ceremony, organised by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), aims to recognize outstanding efforts in promoting environmental sustainability across Sri Lanka.
The event will be attended by Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi, Industries and Entrepreneurship Minister Sunil Handunnetti, Environment Deputy Minister Anton Jayakody, Environment Ministry Secretary K.R. Uduwawala, and senior CEA officials including Chairman Prof. Tilak Hewawasam and Director General Kapila Mahesh Rajapaksha, alongside award recipients and distinguished guests.
This year, a total of 132 awards will be presented, including 17 Gold, 29 Silver, 38 Bronze, 47 Merit Awards, and 1 Special Jury Award. The awards, made from recycled aluminum tins, underscore the event’s strong commitment to eco-friendly practices. All entries were evaluated by expert panels, with jury decisions deemed final.
Applications were submitted across three main sectors: Industry, Projects, and Institutions, Mass Media & Social Sector. The Industry Sector includes large-scale and small-to-medium enterprises in 16 categories ranging from chemical and food industries to hotels, hospitals, and metal and machinery manufacturing. The Projects Sector recognizes renewable energy initiatives, including small-scale hydropower, solar, and wind projects. The Institutions, Mass Media & Social Sector spans schools, public and private institutions, NGOs, environmental innovations, traditional media, and for the first time, social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube channels.
The 2025 Awards are implemented with the vision of “Beautiful Island, Smiling People” in collaboration with the Clean Sri Lanka programme, celebrating initiatives that contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Sri Lanka.
