Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - Parliament’s High Posts Committee has deferred endorsement of the nomination of H.M.V.B. Vijitha Herath to a senior diplomatic position, following a series of allegations involving falsification of official records, unlawful possession of government documents, and misrepresentation of citizenship status.
Rather than initiating the usual vetting protocol, the Committee has reportedly escalated the matter to relevant investigative bodies.
The High Post Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, received a petition against him over complaints in multiple areas, including the abuse of citizenship status.
The committee has sought a further report in this regard. The recommendations of the Committee on High Posts approved the appointments of five new Ambassadors, a High Commissioner, and a Secretary to the Ministry.
Accordingly, Miss. Sumadhurika Sashikala Premawardhane as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia, Mrs. C.A. Chaminda Inoka Colonne, as the Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Mohamed Rizvi Hassen as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, Mr. L.R.M.N.P.G.B. Kadurugamuwa as the Ambassador to Turkey, Mrs. Ruwanthi Delpitiya as the Ambassador to Nepal, and Mr. Marimuththu K. Pathmanathan as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to South Korea have been recommended by the Committee on High Posts.
