Colombo, January 29 (Daily Mirror) - The government will not retain the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Sampath Thuyacontha said.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Defence Secretary confirmed that the government does not plan to continue the CDS role and that the responsibilities associated with the position will be managed by the Ministry of Defence.

The CDS post has remained vacant following the conclusion of General Shavendra Silva's tenure.

CDS position was created to assist Secretary Defence during war time because the SD was a civil servant. Current SD is an ex-military senior so no need another senior to assist him. Its' a wise decision in terms of cutting cost

Good move. Certain posts were created to keep higher rankers happy and have them do pimpy work for Politicians. This was the security these Ministers had with there pimps in the right place even though it was not of any service to the nation. Only public money was wasted.
