Govt to recruit degree-holding professionals into teaching service

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the government plans to bring degree-holding professionals with teaching experience into the teaching service. He invited them to sit for the examination under the Sri Lanka Teachers Service Minute.

The President made the statement at a meeting with representatives of the School Development Officers’ Association at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (03).

The representatives said the issue is not the responsibility of the current government or themselves, but noted that they face several professional and social challenges.

President Dissanayake, who discussed the matter in detail, said the government wants to protect the professional pride and dignity of everyone involved.

VERY GOOD BUT CAN YOU PAY THEM THE RIGHT SALARY WHICH A DEGREE HOLDING PROFESSIONAL EARNS IN DOLLARS IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

@Anthony, Sri Lankan employees earn Sri Lankan salaries paid in Sri Lankan Rupees. It is obvious you would not be a suitable candidate to be a teacher.

Degree holding professionals with teaching experience to be recruited as Teachers? What kind of statement is that? If they are having teaching experience that means they were or are teachers . So what does it mean that government plans to recruit them? Are they not doing any teaching now? So why they left teaching professio? Pachanayake statements are just lies on lies.

Don’t recruit any one into teaching without proper training such as PGCE or any other training program in teaching: teaching is not like any other jobs : teachers can harm the lives of students if they are not trained well

These DrO's were given temporary stop gap positions in the teaching profession due to some of the teaching positions that were not filled because of the prevailing Covid situation at that time. Also in any profession there is a procedure in recruitment to the teaching profession and because these DRO's filled a temporary vacuum how can they now claim a change of their professions. These degree holders were not tested at any time for their competencies only they have been given an opportunity to teach which maybe good, or bad. No one can change the recruitment procedures which have been formulated for each profession because others could go to Courts and challenge this unfair treatment. That's why temporary assurances are given to ease the problem as a conflict solution which does not hold water!!!!!
