Govt to launch cyclone housing damage assessment tomorrow

Colombo, Dec. 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Water Supply said that the assessment of damage to houses caused by Cyclone Ditwah will begin tomorrow. The process will be carried out by a committee appointed under the Presidential Secretariat and will focus on identifying households eligible for government support.

Under the new relief package, the Government will provide Rs. 25,000 for cleaning damaged houses and Rs. 50,000 for resettlement and essential household items—granted once per housing unit, regardless of ownership.

Families who have lost their homes or livelihoods will also receive monthly allowances for three months: Rs. 25,000 for families with two members or fewer, and Rs. 50,000 for families with more than two members.

Additionally, families without a place to live will be supported with Rs. 25,000 per month for up to six months to cover temporary housing rent.
