Colombo, August 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry announced that steps will be taken to install fingerprint scanners in all government institutions that do not currently have them.

Minister Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayaratne said that while many state offices are already equipped with fingerprint scanners, several institutions are yet to adopt the system. He noted that the government will ensure scanners are introduced in all such places, describing it as a convenient process for both employees and the administration.

The Minister pointed out that with the recent increase in overtime allowances under the current government, it is crucial to ensure these payments are made accurately. He stressed that since public employees are remunerated with public funds, salaries and overtime allowances must be properly calculated.

Prof. Abayaratne added that fingerprint scanners play an essential role in maintaining accuracy and accountability in this process.

Just install them to all access doors to government building. This is for security reason. And make the laws to prohibit tail gating. We should build a modernized society in a way use the tech right purpose. Government should be bit more smarter than now. Rather than asking public workers to sign up for the work with figerprint implement this as a security implementation,

Earlier these were not implemented because they were bartered for votes. The whole government service was maintained for political pimps. We saw these forces few days ago how they were salivating on roads against a Court Decision to jail Ranil. These are the shame of the country.

The scanners were already equipped in state institutions but never enforced. Yet another sign of waste. Glad the government is implementing it just because tax payer money was spent on this.

This is a good move but an insider has told me that they use a syringe to inject water to the circuit and damage the machine so they can revert back to manual mode for 3 months Also doctors were given a "privilege" that they dont need to use this, this also should be stopped. Doctors have presigned leave forms given to minor staff so when someone comes to check and they are not in they can add the current date and say doctor on leave
