Government should come up with immediate solutions to the high cost of living and the closure of small and medium industries without depending on the International Monetary Fund (IMF), SJB MP Sarath Fonseka told Parliament yesterday.
“People in this country cannot boil IMF and eat it to satisfy their hunger,” Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said.
“There won’t be any option left for the people rather than going for another Aragalaya for the people of this country. A new Aragalaya must come, as it is not possible to drive corrupt politicians out of power through an election. The Aragalaya should be named as a non-violent revolution of non-patrician people and everyone should be a part of it,” he said.
Referring to SriLankan Airlines, Field Marshal Fonseka said the national carrier has been destroyed by the politicians. The former Chairperson of SriLankan Airlines who happened to be the brother of former First Lady drew a monthly salary of Rs 5 million while his successor who was appointed by the Yahapalana government was paid a monthly salary of Rs 10 million. Coming up with more disclosures, the MP said there is one stewardess who draws a monthly salary and the flying allowances without flying. This stewardess actually works at an office of an MP though she is paid a salary by the national carrier. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
