Govt out to abolish Aswesuma: Sajith alleges

Colombo, October 4 (Daily Mirror) - The Government is out to abolish the Aswesuma social security programme soon, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today. 

Speaking during a public gathering in Thalawa, Anuradhapura, Premadasa said the Aswesuma, on the other hand, has failed to reduce poverty among the people in Sri Lanka. 

"A social security programme should cover poverty aliviation, ensure investment, saving, production and exportation. However, Aswesuma has failed to fulfill these purposes," he added.
