Govt moves to expand child-friendly transport



Colombo, Dec. 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Government has taken further steps to strengthen a child-friendly transport system by translating key policy commitments into action, Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savitri Paulraj said.

Addressing an official ceremony to hand over vehicles to the Provincial Probation and Child Protection Services Departments at the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla yesterday (24), the Minister said that 2025 is a year in which many promises made under the policy vision “A Rich Country – A Beautiful Life” have been fulfilled.

She said that special attention would be given in the coming year to women and child affairs, with maximum intervention aimed at improving social indicators in line with the country’s economic growth.

As part of this initiative, the 2025 Budget allocated Rs. 250 million to procure vehicles for the safe transportation of children at the provincial level. Accordingly, nine vehicles—one for each province—were officially handed over at the ceremony.

The Minister Highlighted that the Government remains committed to ensuring a safe, respectful and dignified transport system for children in contact with the justice system.
