Colombo, July 24 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to integrating digital health solutions into the country’s existing mental health services, aligning with its broader digitization agenda.
She highlighted the importance of developing regulatory frameworks that promote innovation while ensuring safety, data privacy, security and ethical standards.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion on digital mental health with the global digital mental health network of eMHIC yesterday, the Prime Minister stressed the need for a coordinated, multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach. She also called for a well-trained mental health workforce and stronger community-level engagement to support the effective implementation of digital mental health initiatives.
Highlighting some of the challenges, Dr. Amarasuriya noted gaps in digital literacy and psychological well-being between parents and children, especially in the context of incorporating digital tools into new educational reforms.
