Govt. approves proposal to expedite treatment for critical Covid patients

The Government has approved the proposal to expedite providing medical treatment for COVID patients who are in critical condition.

The approval was granted to provide medical treatment using oxygen concentrators for the critically ill patients who were diagnosed after the spreading of  Covid-19 third wave.

The proposal was made by the Health Minister to take the following action immediately to ensure medical oxygen supply for critical patients.

• Establishment of High Dependency Units equipped with Wall Oxygen devices to treat critically ill Covid patients identified 25  hospitals province-wise covering the entire island.
• The establishment of 15 oxygen generating equipment in 15 designated remote hospitals to ensure necessary medical oxygen supply and  providing 2,500 mobile medical oxygen generators for the 25 districts with 100 for each hospital and thereby reduce the need for oxygen supply through cylinders in the hospitals.
• To import 120,000 liters of liquid oxygen monthly to meet the upsurging medical oxygen demand and maintain an adequate stock in the island. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
