Govt approves feasibility study to ease traffic at Colombo’s Lotus Roundabout

Colombo, Sep 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to conduct a detailed feasibility study to address increasing traffic congestion at the Lotus Roundabout, one of Colombo’s most congested intersections during peak hours.

The congestion at this key location has been identified as a growing concern for the city’s urban transport network. Officials warn that the issue will be further exacerbated with the upcoming completion of major infrastructure projects, including the Colombo Port City, the Port Access Road, and other ongoing developments in the city center.

In response, the Cabinet has greenlit the proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation to select a consultation agency through a formal procurement process.

The agency will be tasked with conducting a comprehensive feasibility study to design a sustainable traffic solution.

The study will focus on improving connectivity with Colombo’s main transport corridors and minimizing congestion at the Lotus Roundabout, including the port access road ramps and the planned extension of the coastal road.
