Govt. approves administration of temporary care homes in 10 districts

Colombo, Feb 20 (Daily Mirror) - The government has approved the administration of temporary care homes maintained in 10 districts under the Women and Child Affairs Ministry, Cabinet spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa said.

He said that approval has also been granted for the expenses related to these homes, as they are jointly managed by the Women and Child Affairs Ministry and non-governmental organisations.

"Providing temporary care for women and their children who are victims of harassment due to gender-based disparities should be a responsibility of the government," he said.

Accordingly, temporary care homes have been established in 10 districts under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, with funding jointly provided by the Ministry and non-governmental organisations.

Additionally, a new care home has been established in the Nuwara Eliya district, which has been operational since January 2025.
