The government has agreed to settle the salary anomalies of teachers and principals at once, rather than paying it in three installments, Teachers' Trade Union leaders said today.
Ceylon Teachers' Service Union President Mahinda Jayasinghe told journalists that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa assured the trade unions that the anomalies would settled on one go.
"The 160 day struggle to win our demands have ended on a successful note" Jayasinghe said.
"Both Prime Minister and Finance Minister informed us of the government's decision during a meeting held at the parliamentary premises" he added.
Ceylon Teachers' Union President Joseph Stalin also expressed same remarks and rated their struggle as a resounding success.
Both the trade union leaders said they will continue their struggle to win other demands as well.
"We have managed to win our major demand," Mr. Stalin said.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
