Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Government is to introduce a ‘Cyber Security Bill which will empower Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness (SLCERT) to see that websites follow stipulated precautions to ensure the security of their sites soon, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeratune told Parliament today.
“SLCERT can only advise websites as per the current laws but the new Cyber Security Bill will give it more power. SLCERT will have more power to enforce the law under the new legislation,” the Deputy Minister said.
Referring to the proposed electronic identity card, the Deputy Minister said those who want to continue with their old identity card will be allowed to do so while an online identity card will also be issued to them. This will not be a physical one but an online one,” he said.
However, he said those who apply for a new identity card will be issued an electronic card.
