Government to establish Independent Prosecutor’s Office



Colombo, Feb 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Justice and National Integration has decided to establish an Independent Prosecutor’s Office as stated in the election manifesto of the National People’s Power (NPP).

The Ministry said in a statement that an expert committee is expected to be appointed as the initial step, which includes the Attorney General or two representatives from the Attorney General’s Department, the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, a senior judge with expertise in the relevant field and the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) or a nominee of the BASL President.

 

The committee will draft the concept paper on establishing the Independent Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry will seek public and civil consultations after the concept paper is drafted.
