Colombo, March 1 (Daily Mirror) - Power and Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody warned that legal action will be taken against individuals for hoarding stocks of fuel unnecessarily and against fuel stations if fuel is issued for barrels, cans or bottles as per the country's law.
The Minister said sufficient stocks of fuel are available in the country for more than a month and requested people not to create unnecessary shortages by hoarding fuel.
He said issuing fuel to cans, barrels, and bottles is illegal and added that if any fuel station is found to do so, legal action will be taken against them.
"Law enforcement agencies have been informed of the situation and to conduct raids," he said.
The Minister said raids will be conducted and legal action will be taken against places where fuel is hoarded and law enforcement agencies have been informed of that as well.
He said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation issued fuel today and will continue tomorrow (Monday) also despite it being a Poya Day, whereas the CPC does not issue fuel on Sunday and Poya Days.
