Colombo, Sept. 26 (Daily Mirror) - The government has politicised the Foreign Service where those who are not in the Foreign Service have been appointed as ambassadors, contrary to its election promises, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman said today.
He told Parliament that the government has made political appointments to the Foreign Service whereas the National People’s Power (NPP) pledged that no political appointments will be made to the Foreign Service.
The MP said nine diplomats were appointed recently and that only one of them was in the Foreign Service.
“All the others have been appointed outside the foreign service. One of them, a candidate of the NPP in the Colombo District, was appointed to Cuba. A JVP carder was appointed as the Deputy High Commissioner to Chennai,” he said.
He said the mandate of the government is to act in a transparent manner, ensure law and order and ensure transparency in governance.
“However, the government is acting contrary to its mandate,” he said.
