Colombo, Oct. 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Core Group reminded the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that Sri Lanka’s pledges remain unfulfilled and every commitment on justice, devolution and human rights has been reduced to rhetoric, Parliamentarian Shanakiyan Rasamanickam said.

He said in a post on X that "It’s time for actions, not assurances. The government cannot keep deceiving the world as it does its own people."

The MP said in reply to a X message posted by former MP MA Sumanthiran that the UNHRC adopts a resolution on ‘Promoting Accountability and Reconciliation in SL’ without a vote.

"We welcome the extension of international supervision for another two years, though disappointed with the lack of progress for over 16 years, notwithstanding several such resolutions since 2012," Sumanthiran said.

Have these politicians ever acknowledged that the LTTE was a terrorist organization and that Sri Lankan military personnel and previous governments fought to eradicate it? Have they ever appreciated the freedom enjoyed by all ethnic groups for the last 16 years? It appears that they have only one agenda. No matter what is being done, they are not happy until they have a two-state solution.

Very true! If this was a western country any allegiance to a designated terrorist organisation would result in immediate arrest, and any demands for threatening a country’s sovereignty would be challenged and refused. Part of the reconciliation process should include that all parties recognise that Sri Lanka is a sovereign state in its entirety; North, South, East and West! People who seek a mono ethnic state should look elsewhere; India perhaps.

To ANVR- The only similarity between Sri Lankan war and Gaza war is this- 1) Palestinians and Sri Lankans were fighting to keep hold of their country and defend their citizens. 2) Israel and LTTE were trying to grab land and expel ethnicities from that land; both wanting exclusive control.

These northern politicians keep beating the same drum! What are they doing for the good of Sri Lanka? If it’s nothing, then should they be in office at the expense of Sri Lankan taxpayers’ money? They are hindering our progress.
