Government approves recruitment for 7,456 vacant posts

Colombo, Feb 11 (Daily Mirror) - The government has approved recruitment to fill 7,456 vacant posts as recommended by the Committee for Public Service and Staff Management, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

Addressing the media, he said that the recruitment process was made based on essential requirements approved at the meeting held on December 30, 2024, for the appointment of officers.

The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, was tasked with assessing the necessary recruitments based on requirements, priorities and time frames by reviewing the government sector recruitment process.

Accordingly, the committee has recommended the recruitment of 3,000 vacant posts for the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government. Additionally, nine vacant posts have been allocated to the Ministry of Defence, 179 to the Ministry of Science and Technology, 132 to the Ministry of Finance, Plan Implementation and Economic Development, and 400 for the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.

Furthermore, 161 vacant posts have been approved for the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, 3,519 for the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, 34 for the Western Provincial Council, five for the Eastern Provincial Council, and 17 for the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.

At the start NPP advisers said there is excess staff. Earlier there was a new item of recruitment. Now additional 7000. Have these guys not heard of a term called re-training, reassign, secondment? Knee jerk reactions to issues are the only method comrades know. What about those highly qualified guys behind the NPP/JVP think tank? It is said "Failing to plan is planning to fail".

FIRSTLY, WHAT WERE THE TOTAL AMOUNT WHEN THE PREVIOUS MR AND GOTA GOVTS WERE GOVERNING?. SECONDLY HOW MANY HAVE LEFT FROM THE ABOVE TWO GOVTS?. THIRDLY IF THIS IS AN ADDITION MEANING ABOVE THE PREVIOUS TWO GOVTS MENTIONED ABOVE, IS THE GOVT THINKING OF GETTING RID OF THE NON PRODUCTIVE EXISTING PUBLIC SERVANTS IN THESE DEPTS?. WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THE PROCESS AND JUSTIFICATION OF THESE NEW APPOINTMENTS. SURELY THE HEAD OF ALL PUBLIC DEPTS SHOULD BE WELL AWARE OF THE HARD WORKING STAFF AS AGAINST THE NONPRODUCTIVE, SOME WHO WERE PUT IN TO THE BENEFIT OF THE GOVERNING CORRUPT POLITICIANS. SIMPLY ADDING TO STAFF AND INCREASING WAGES WILL NOT SERVE THE PURPOSE OF EFFICIENCY.

All these years country functioned without those 7456. What a waste of public money by bunch of jokers. These guys will sink thr ship again like Gota unless they stop these nonsense. Already the dollar reserves have sharpply dropped to 6b usd within short period of time.

A kind reminder to the NPP government - How about granting salary increments every six months to government servants as you promised during the election campaign? Is it "yet another promise blown to dust" by the NPP government, which has already become a laughingstock!

I am sure Sri Lanka would have looked at the efficiency of the current staff before making a decision to recruit new staff. If not, look at the ways the current USA government's methods to establish the efficiency of their Federal staff. Take the good ones Has the Government found the money to pay the new employees?

There are so manat departments and agencies significantly overstaffed. Can't ther ebe a reallocation and reassigning of staff from amoungst those departments and agencies rather than simply hire more persons to the already significantly bloted public service? The NPP government does not seem serious about cutting out waste. They should learn from how the new administration in the USA is going about the business of stampting out wasteful expenditure.

I suppose those jobless fellows who disrupted the country, supported the NPP/JVP need to be given employment, just like when other parties came to power! Vacancies are created !!!!! Hope people can see the true colours of this government now. People voted for this government through utter frustration, and now everyone is paying the price!! !
