Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - The government has granted approval to implement a Concrete Debris Recycling Project aimed at recycling concrete and building waste, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said today.
The proposal, submitted by the Sri Lanka State Engineering Corporation (SLSEC), has been approved as a pilot project to promote sustainable construction practices.
Addressing the media, Minister Jayatissa explained that the project will recycle concrete and building waste, and the materials produced will be mixed with natural raw materials for use in new construction and other suitable projects.
It has been proposed to set up the machinery for the project at the pre-cast concrete production platform of the SLSEC in the Ekala Industrial Colony.
Cabinet approval has also been granted to allocate Rs. 200 million from the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme under the Ministry of Construction and Housing to implement the project. The initiative aims to reduce construction waste and promote environmental sustainability in the building sector.
