Government MP influencing judiciary is a serious matter: Opposition MP

Colombo, Oct. 17 (Daily Mirror) - The statement by government MP Lakmali Hemachandra, asking to prevent the implementation of an order given by the judiciary, is a serious matter and amounts to influencing the judiciary, Opposition MP Kavinda Jayawardena said today.

Dr. Jayawardena told the media that it could be considered contempt of court.

"An MP asking not to implement an order issued by the judiciary is a serious matter and could be considered contempt of court. I am not a lawyer, but I feel it could be regarded as contempt of court," he said.

Nonsense, taking a part from a speech and trying to project it as an interfering in judiciary is a childish act. Opposition is frustrated, without giving statement about the speech, just file a case in the judiciary against the lady for contempt of court.

Yes this woman comrade said in public not to implement the court. Comrades take action and the judiciary charge her for contempt of court, if you guys are independent. Comrades and the judiciary your credibility is at stake.

Its not influencing the judiciary but is an attempt at stifling the course of justice by exerting pressure on the police to refrain from executing a judicial order. However minister Watagala has assured that the judicial order would prevail.

There was no contempt of court in what Sister Lakmali said. So the bankrupt opposition is just not having anything to focus on.
