Colombo, February 7 (Daily Mirror) - The government will take its first steps in its digitization programme by launching new three initiatives today, including GovPay, a system intended to completely digitize payments to government institutions.
Alongside the GovPay initiative, the government will also launch a programme that will enable those who require financial assistance from the President’s Fund for medical treatment, to make their applications digitally through their respective Divisional Secretariats.
“Govpay will allow payments to be made to 16 government institutions at launch, which will be extended to 30 institutions in due course,” Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne told the media yesterday.
“The intention is to make Sri Lanka a cashless society, and Govpay will be enabled through banking apps and other financial transactions apps, allowing the public to make all their transactions with government institutions through this service,” he also said.
Each transaction will cost a Rs. 15 transaction fee, the Minister confirmed.
Meanwhile, the government has also made birth, marriage and death certificates available digitally for Sri Lankans living overseas as part of its digitization initiative.
