GovPay online fine payment launched today in Western Province, expressways

Colombo, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - The GovPay online payment system for traffic fines was officially launched today (28) in the Western Province and on expressways, Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Ratnayake said.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Minister said that there has been no change in the current fine amounts. However, individuals fined for any of 33 identified traffic violations can now settle their payments through the GovPay platform, eliminating the need to visit a post office.

“To support the rollout, 1,000 traffic police officers will be provided with mobile phones,” the Minister said. “Thanks to the Digital Affairs Ministry’s efforts, we were able to launch this initiative swiftly.”

He added that mobile phones will be distributed to other police stations in the coming months, making the process even more accessible. Police officers are also set to receive training from the Digital Affairs Ministry to ensure smooth implementation.

The system is expected to be fully operational across the Western Province by August 4.

Meanwhile, a separate road safety programme has already been launched in the Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa Provinces to reduce accidents and improve public safety.
