German woman arrested at BIA over Russian Embassy laptop incident



Colombo, May 10 (Daily Mirror)- A German woman was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in connection with an investigation into an incident involving a laptop handed over to a security officer at the Russian Embassy in Colombo and the person running away.

Police said that on April 28, 2025, the Cinnamon Gardens Police launched an investigation following a complaint that a foreign woman had handed over a laptop to a Russian Embassy security officer before fleeing the scene.

Further investigations conducted by the Cinnamon Gardens Police and the Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Bureau identified a German woman as the suspect. 

On May 4, 2025, the court imposed a travel ban on her pending the outcome of the investigation.

Despite the ban, the suspect attempted to leave the country on May 7 through the Katunayake Airport. 

She was arrested by airport police and handed over to the Cinnamon Gardens Police.

The woman was later produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court and released on bail.
