Ambalangoda, Jan 20 (Daily Mirror) - A 23-year-old German tourist visiting Ambalangoda had a terrifying encounter on Thursday evening while enjoying a solo stroll along the picturesque beach.
An unidentified man suddenly lunged at her, leaving her with minor injuries and a deeply unsettling experience.
The young woman, who was staying at a local hotel, was enjoying the tranquil beach setting when the incident occurred. According to her statement to the Ambalangoda police, the attacker unexpectedly approached and attempted to sexually assault her. In the ensuing struggle to escape, she sustained a bite on her breast.
The tourist’s hotel provided prompt medical attention, treating her minor injuries. Meanwhile, Ambalangoda police have launched a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrator. They are currently reviewing security footage and gathering witness accounts to piece together the events and identify the suspect.

Not exactly tourist friendly. This is published in the press every few days in this country. And those are just the known sexual assaults. It starts when, for example, a woman in Negombo walks down Beach Road and mindless 3-wheel drivers and loitering rabble whistle at the women and make suggestive sexual comments. It must be in the genes of Sri Lankan men or in their bad upbringing that when they see a white female tourist their mouths water, their brains slip into their pants and they become sexual maniacs. In other countries, women can safely walk alone on the beach at night. Until this perverted behavior of men in Sri Lanka is eradicated through draconian punishments, Sri Lanka cannot be called tourist friendly. Furthermore, the court procedure must be changed in these cases. A statement from a sexually harassed tourist to the police must be sufficient to convict the pervert predator in court, without the tourist having to travel from her home country for the court hearing.

Most areas of the beaches around the world are very dark especially outlying areas during the night. Being venerable, should have used her common sense to stay close by the hotel premises or be accompanied by someone. Due to the economic situation, even males are not safe being alone!
