Gen Shavendra Silva’s father passes away

L. H Creasy Silva, former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and father of Chief of Defence Staff and former Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, has passed away at the age of 93 this morning.

Late Mr Creasy Silva before his appointment as the SLTB Chairman from 1989 to 1993 also served earlier as an SLTB Regional Chairman.

His remains are now lying at No 10, Rahula Mawatha, M. C. Road, Matale and the funeral takes place at Matale General Cemetery on Thursday (15) at 4.30 pm.

This death, while of course mattering to the family, shouldn't need any national coverage. However, too much reminiscing about past chairman. Probably allowed at least 100 undeserving persons to work at the SLTB because MP asked him to employ them when he was chairman. Our country is in the doldrums because people like him kept going along with getting paid, saying Yes Minister, Yes Minister, all the while knowing at the back of their minds, the decisions for SLTB and other state enterprises were always wrong.
