Colombo, Feb. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Govt. Radiological Technologists’ Association (GRTA) has announced the resumption of trade union action from Monday (9), citing delays by the Health Ministry in implementing recommendations from an investigation into the Deputy Director (RD) of Maligawatta Kidney Hospital.
The investigation concerns allegations that the Deputy Director failed to remove the officer under scrutiny from the hospital, a step necessary to ensure an independent and pressure-free inquiry. The issue was discussed with the Deputy Minister on January 21 and January 27, 2026, and it was agreed that any temporary removal would follow the receipt of an interim report within 48 hours.
The union confirmed that the interim report, received on January 29, included recommendations for action, but claimed the Ministry of Health has not implemented these instructions. Union officials expressed concerns that the same authorities previously ignored complaints dating back to 2024, and alleged that “invisible hands” are protecting the official involved, which they say has contributed to escalating tensions and calls for strike action.
In a statement, the union called on the Deputy Minister to urgently intervene and ensure that the Health Ministry implements the orders, while also requesting a meeting to discuss the situation and prevent further disruption to hospital services.
